Warm Bodies

85. Read 26 books I've never read starting with each letter of the alphabet (18/26)

The first time I came across “Warm Bodies” I thought “Ok, this is Twilight with zombies. No, thank you very much.” But then the trailer came out and it didn’t look like Twilight at all and it actually came off as quite funny and I wanted to give the book a try.
In my opinion, it’s nothing like Twilight and I think that it’s an ok book, not overly exciting. I’m sure I’d have appreciated it more if the author decided to take another direction with it. But that’s just my opinion.

Classic Movies

11. See 10 classic movies I've never seen. (done)

The Princess Bride
East of Eden
Giant
Some like it hot
Gentlemen prefer blondes
Sabrina
The Exorcist
Woman of the Year
Pulp Fiction
Pretty in Pink

Pulp Fiction is a classic right? I know that it's not that old but I still think that it's a classic.

The Black Keys

49. See The Black Keys in concert.

Last November I went to a Black Keys concert and it was absolutely awesome! They were so, so good. I wished I could see them every single day.
The Maccabees opened the show and they were also very good and very good looking. We actually had the opportunity of taking pictures with some of them.

Hand Written Letter

47. Write a hand written letter to someone.

Sometimes I forget my Day Zero Project goals and I end up acknowledging that I completed one of them when I read my list again.
In July I sent a book to one of my best friends, that currently lives in Russia and inside the book there was a letter that I wrote to her. It wasn’t much of a letter, it was more of a message but it took two weeks to arrive so I’ll think of it as a letter. And writing her address in Russian was quite a challenge.

I-I-I work out

78. Start working out.

I finally started working out. Needless to say that I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in street fights for the past two weeks. That’s the price to pay for being too lazy to work out for almost two years. (To be honest, I sometimes work out when I’m home in Lagos, but most of my time I’m not there, so it doesn’t count.)

Twenty-four Hours in the Life of a Woman (Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau )

85. Read 26 books I've never read starting with each letter of the alphabet (17/26)

I’ve already read “Letter from an unknown woman” by Stefan Zweig and I loved it. It’s such a beautiful and heartbreaking story, and so well written.
In my opinion “Twenty-four Hours in the Life of a Woman” doesn’t have such a compelling story but it’s just as well written. I’m definitely interested in reading more of Zweig’s books.

The Book of Nightmares

38. Read a book of poetry.

“The Book of Nightmares” is quite lovely. I’m not a huge fan of poetry but I definitely enjoyed the book. However I had a difficult time understanding every single detail because I read it in English.

Notes from Underground

85. Read 26 books I've never read starting with each letter of the alphabet (16/26)

This is my first exposure to Russian literature and I have to say that "Notes from Underground" is a very interesting book. It is masterfully written and has one of the most complex characters I’ve ever read. Everything that this character does or thinks is a paradox; it must be exhausting being him and dealing with him.

The Exorcist

10. See 10 classic movies I've never seen (7/10)

I have to be honest… My knowledge of horror movies is very scarce. I’ve only watched like 10 horror movies. But I was rarely impressed so I end up avoiding them. I can’t feel immersed in that “new world” and because of that I don’t believe in the characters and the story. Most of the time, I just feel like laughing at those movies. Even though they’re supposed to be scary, they usually fail to scare me. If I want to laugh, I’ll just watch a comedy…
Last week I watched “The Exorcist” with a group of friends (we also watched Cabin in the Woods and felt like it was kind of stupid). We thought it was going to be really, really scary. However none of us got scared and we thought that the best part of the movie was a comic scene and it’s sad to say that about a horror movie.
I’ve never witnessed any paranormal event so I didn’t feel like any of that was plausible. However, if someone believes in that kind of thing, I think it is certainly scary.
“Saw” (I’ve only watched the first two movies) is the only horror movie that has had any real effect on me because if someone gets really crazy it can happen. And the truth is watching the news can be really scary…

Feel free to recommend a really good horror movie.

(I noticed I didn't blog about the other classic movies I watched so here it goes: The Princess Bride, East of Eden, Giant, Some like it Hot, Gentlemen prefer Blondes, Sabrina)

UnWind

85. Read 26 books I've never read starting with each letter of the alphabet (15/26)

Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.

The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound”, whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and survive.”

I have to thank my brother for buying this book. It’s one of my new favorites. It’s highly disturbing. I felt like burning the book a couple of times. Sometimes it would make me so angry. But I couldn’t stop reading.
The characters are interesting, the story compelling and the writing is clean. I don’t ask for much more.
The sequel will be out on the 28th but I want it already in my hands!

Insurgent

86. Read 26 books I've never read starting with each letter of the alphabet (14/26)

Lately, I haven’t mentioned books at all. And there’s a good reason for that. I don’t choose the books I read based on their first letter, which means that after a while I started repeating the letters. And that has been happening a lot.
And I just noticed that I completely forgot to blog about one book that I read ages ago and it actually is Divergent, the first book of the Divergent Trilogy. The second book to that trilogy is Insurgent, which I happened to finish reading today.
Both books are fantastic and I recommend it to basically everyone that likes to read dystopias, like The Hunger Games.

Not log into facebook for a whole week

14. Not log into facebook for a whole week.

Quite an easy achievement when you're on holiday and you don't have a computer with you ahah

Italy

22. Visit Italy.

Done!
I really liked the city. Completely different vibe from London or Paris or Barcelona. It shows very well how everything in life is layered. Today's builings might be tomorrow's ruins. It almost feels as time travelling.
And the food... I already miss it!

A Game of Thrones

101. Ask 5 friends to suggest one book, and read them all. (1/5)

I can’t recall how many times my brother told me to read this book and I always answered him that it was huge and I didn’t feel in the mood to read that kind of book. I must add that I had never seen the TV adaptation; I wanted to read the book first.
Let’s just say that I changed my mind! And all thanks to George R. R. Martin, the author of the book.
Last month it was the premiere of the second season of Game of Thrones and George R. R. Martin came to Portugal for the premiere and a Q&A. I think there was an autograph’s session too. Well, my brother’s a massive fan of the books and he won a contest to attend the premiere. And although I thought I’d be bored out of my mind, I went with him because he couldn’t find anyone to go with.
I’ll be honest, I enjoyed the first episode of the second season but I didn’t get most of it. There was an all other season behind that I had no idea what was about.
However the Q&A sold me. The author was so much fun that I felt like I had to read all of his books.

Conclusion: I finished reading the book today and I LOVED IT!
